Yonkers Raceway Picks – Saturday

Here are my selections for this Saturday’s race card at Yonkers Raceway.

Race 1: 2 Gambler’s Tale was flat last time out, has good speed and has raced against better company, like this one here. 3 Smokealittlesmoke gets post relief this time out and should be good here. 8 Bittersweet Champ can surprise here with early gate speed.

Race 2: 1 Man He Can Skoot gets post relief and has good back class in his resume. Sears gets the drive again. 6 Goban has been on the board in its last 3 and should be considered here. 5 Old Time Hockey hasn’t been good in its last 4, something has to give here.

Race 3: 3 Sir Ziggy’s Z Tam has the back class over these and should breakout tonight. No excuse at this class level. 2 Bubbie Boy has decent speed and should be with the leaders throughout. 5 Caviart Key looked good last time out in 1:52:4 and with the same effort could upset here.

Race 4: 2 Tobago Cays has excellent speed and like this track. Goodell gets a second shot here. 3 Rollwithitharry has the back class and speed to beat these but has not shown any real effort in its last 4. 8 One and Only looked sharp last time out but will need a big effort from post 8.

Race 5: 7 Mcerlean ran a monster 1 1/16 two back and seems to be very good at this distance. Gets class relief this time out. 1 Espen De Vie can go the distance here and has the favorable post 1 this time out. 3 Forever Just has good speed and should be close at the end.

Race 6: 8 Heston Blue Chip has the back class, speed and resume to beat these but will need to leave early. 3 Pancetta gets post relief and has been good so far in 2014, must be considered here. 6 Frankies Dragon game winner last time out in 1:51:1 and should be close.

Race 7: 5 Take it Back Harry has the back class and excellent speed to take this wire to wire. 1 Thirty Two Red gets post relief and could contend here. 4 Southwind Amazon won last time out and should be part of your exotic wagering.

Race 8: 2 Big N Bad is the speedster here and has done well in 2014 winning 11 of 24. Gets Sears in the bike this time out and should win easily. 1 Rampage Jackson looks like he is getting back into racing form but will need a perfect trip to make this a close one. 7 Rock On Moe has the speed to upset here, but needs to overcome post 7.

Race 9: 1 Safe Harbor won last time out easily at this distance and draws post 1, no problem. 5 Glass Prince has the back class and speed to compete with these. 3 That Man Of Mine doesn’t handle the extra 1/16th well but should be considered in exotics with some good back class.

Race 10: 4 Dreamlands Art gets some relief and has the speed to best these. 1 Stolen Car has not won this year and with post 1 and racing well over its 5 could break the ice tonight. 2 Thorn In Your Side raced well last time out with and easy win and could repeat with a good trip.

Race 11: 3 The Real One has the back class, speed and faces lesser foes this time out. 1 Casmir Jitterbug draws post 1 and gets Sears back in the bike. 4 Lets Rock Together has the speed and connections to upset these and has raced well lately.

Race 12: 3 Doctor Butch won at this level last time out and should have no problem with this class again. 2 Island Jet has the speed and has raced well in its last three. 1 Diamond Cowboy draws post 1 and could compete here.

All the best!

About Cam

Major League Baseball is my favorite sport and growing up in New York, it was the Yankees. My dad was a diehard fan and the torch was passed onto me. I consider myself a baseball historian and a fan of the sport with a knack for being objective. My favorite moment was at Yankee Stadium when Don Mattingly and Dave Winfield were competing for the American Leagues highest batting average. Donny baseball won by tenths of a point. Great day! My other favorite sport is horse racing and mostly harness racing. I was first introduced to harness racing back in 1980 when my neighborhood friend invited me to Roosevelt Raceway. I had no idea what I was doing and my friend said “just bet on any horse Carmine Abbatiello is driving.” I made several win bets and I did hit a few winners. I was so excited and from that day on I was hooked. My greatest night was when I hit the straight triple in the 3rd and it paid $1,200 and my dad who wasn’t fond of me betting on the horses was elated when I gave him a few hundred from my winnings. My uncle Duke loves the ponies and I use to bump into him at OTB (Off Track Betting) when I couldn’t make it to the track. I have watched and handicapped Harness and Thoroughbred racing for over 30 years and have been a spectator at many race tracks. My most memorable race was the 1983 US Pacing Championship at Roosevelt Raceway. I was born and raised in Astoria, Queens (New York) and was fortunate to see many great races at Yonkers, Belmont and at my home track, Roosevelt Raceway, which was closed down on July 15, 1988.

  1. Thanks Sam!
Some days you win. Some days you lose. Been pretty lucky at Yonkers for a long time. It’s great racing and top notch drivers. I’ve enjoyed watching the racing there for many years now. Good luck to you and join the Winners Wire!

    • Glen,

Have a great time! I was there in August 2012 and we watched Sapphire City break the track record in that age group. I lived in NY for 41 years so it was fun going back to the track.

      Pick some winners!
